Stagetext

Established in 2000 Stagetext are leading the way to make theatre and culture accessible to the deaf, deafened and hard of hearing. Ahead of theatre performances or cultural events, trained captioners prepare subtitles which are projected onto large-scale captioning units and then cued live as the action unfolds. These captioning units formed the foundation of our re-brand – the parenthesis brackets; a visual metaphor for the unit as well as a reference for the ‘unspoken word’, and the syntax; a marker for the start of a new line of copy or speech. We also took inspiration from the history of subtitling, bringing subtle visual references into play across their print and digital material.
